There is an argument to be made for devoting this list purely to development technology and methods. Such a pure list would no doubt appeal to those who complain about the perceived WOB (waste of bandwidth). Unfortunately, development executed within a moral or philosophical vacumn can lead to the kinds of ill-conceived and poorly-designed projects that have dogged this field of endeavor for years.

Finally, the only path between two strongly-held arguments is tolerance...

Given that the vast majority of posts to this list are calls for papers and/or announcements for (expensive) international conferences, just what exactly do these folks get from this listserv? There is of course the VITA -News report, but then again this is always a large document that must be very expensive to download. So what is the point?
