I am old and ancient. When I was younger we had a culture of parsimony,
and it particularly applied to something called cablegrams. The challenge
of writing a cable, in order to save money, was to be succinct and get your
message across in as few words as possible. Victor Hugo was on vacation
when Les Miserables was published and wanted to what type of reviews the
book was getting. He sent the following telegram to his agent:

"?"

to which his agent relied

"!"

So do let's be succinct

Just out of curiosity, does anyone else see an inconsistency between bemoaning off-topic or 'me-too' posts (on the grounds of pay-per-byte extravagance), and tolerating Html/ Mime rubbish? I don't mind dealing with Mime attachments, even Jpegs, when they are relevant to the issues, but I fail to see the value of sending a 7k message where 1k plain text would do as well.
