I don't know how many strips you're talking about, but perhaps they are
too numerous for the following idea:
1.  Make a contact sheet with several strips on it. 2. Label the contact
sheet with alphabetic characters, begin with "A" and work up through "ZZ" or
even "ZZZZ".  3. Number each frame on the contact sheet starting with the
upper left corner.  Let's say 1-48.  4. The number for an image would then
be a combination of the contact sheet letter(s) plus the frame number, e.g.
DB24.
