We have been burning two versions, one an archival version with no
compression, a colorbar/greyscale/ruler is included in each scan, with the
(unembedded) ICC profile (and a Q60 thrown in as well) burned on each disc.
We also create a second file with the profile embedded which gets burned to
a service copy disc. It seems practical to provide the files because
Photoshop will use an embedded profile if one exists, but will
*automatically apply another (default) profile* otherwise (unless the user
has set up PS to alert them to mismatches). It just seems that this makes it
more likely that the ICC profile will actually be used. :)
