SOLINET, Inc, The Southeastern Library Network, is pleased to
         present the following training opportunity.

INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL IMAGING FOR LIBRARIES AND ARCHIVES

The increase in digital imaging projects for library and archival
collections raises many issues related to selection, resource
allocation and long-term access (preservation). These issues must
be thoroughly examined before an institution undertakes a digital
         imaging project.

Issues addressed in this one-day workshop include the following:
What collections or resources are appropriate for digital
conversion? How will the digital files be maintained? Who is
responsible for ensuring future access to this digital information?
Is future access necessary? Institutions considering imaging
project must consider these questions. This workshop is designed
to provide participants with the tools needed to make informed
         decision about undertaking scanning projects.

This workshop will be held on Friday, June 2nd, 2000 at Louisiana
State University, Baton Rouge, LA from 9am-4pm.

Instructor is Faye Phillips, Assistant Dean of Libraries for
         Special Collections, Louisiana State University

Cost is $95 SOLINET Members ($85 early bird, $120 late
         registration) $135 Non-SOLINET & FEDLINK ($125 early, $160 late
registration). Any institution within Louisiana qualifies for the
         member rate.

Partial funding for this workshop has been provided by a grant from
the National Endowment for the Humanities, Division of Preservation
         and Access.
