For interest I have tried using photoshop to make a conversion from the bitonal TIFF file to a GIF and JPEG format and e ch time the file size increased. I assume that this should be expected as the bitonal TIFF file is a 'compressed image format' to start with. (ITU Group
compression)

Q. Therefore, can an "on-the-fly" TIFF2GIF conversion application reduce the file size, without resizing/resampling the ima e to a smaller pixel dimension? and how does it make the files more efficient for web access without compromising legibility?
