    Workshop at the Joint Conference on Digital Libraries -- July 18, 2002 http://lair.indiana.edu/jcdlwsdledu.html

    Call for Proposals Deadline: May 31, 2002

    Scope

    Gaining education and training in the field of Digital Libraries is a difficult prospect. Relevant courses and experiences are usually scattered among different programs and institutions. Often, course content does not include the necessary mix of the theoretical and practical treatment. The workshop is aimed at developers, researchers, educators, and administrators interested in educational programs for training next generation of digital library professionals -- both information technologists and librarians.

    Workshop Objectives

    * To improve understanding of scope, format, and method of delivery of
      current digital library educational programs;
    * To identify relevant digital library topical areas for incorporation
      into educational programs;
    * To increase awareness of digital library (or comparable) educational
      program execution, evaluation, and management;
    * To provide a forum for discussing challenges to digital library
      education program development, sources of funding, and
      cross-disciplinary and cross-institutional collaborations.

    Planned Publications

    Short papers are invited for the workshop (2-page maximum length in JCDL format). Send PDF-formatted file as email attachment to both workshop chairs, Kristine Brancolini (mailto:brancoli@indiana.edu) and Javed Mostafa mailto:(jm@indiana.edu). Upon review by the program committee, the accepted papers will be published on the web. Authors of the accepted papers will be invited to make presentations at the workshop. The chairs are currently seeking collaborations with a few key journals to develop a special issue on DL education. Authors of accepted papers will be invited to submit full-length articles to the special issue upon selection of a journal.

    Expected Audience

    Educators and professionals interested in programs for educating next generation digital librarians.
