The Preservation Department at the Olin Library at Cornell University would
like to purchase a low-cost grayscale/color scanner for demonstration--as
opposed to high speed production--purposes in conjunction with a course we
will offer to preservation administrators this fall.

>From reviews published during the past year, we have narrowed our choice to
the Envisions ENV24Pro or the HP Scanjet IIcx scanner. We are interested in receiving user feedback for either of these products.

Answers to any or all of the following questions would be much appreciated:

What is the average time required to scan a text page at 256 levels of gray? To scan an illustrated page (halftone or photograph) at 256 levels of gray? The same questions for 24-bit color scanning. Overall impressions of image quality? Ease of installation? Overall performance? Technical support from company?

Thank you in advance for responses to this query.
