My Accounting Operations department is considering the possibility of managing a record series called document invoice recaps through the purchase of an imaging system with OCR capability. The question is--has any other University out there implemented a similar system for similar documents? Did it work? and if no one has implemented, did anyone ever consider it?
I actually think its a great idea. The records have a six year retention and have high retrieval rates. They file by invoice number, but their filing system is plagued by misfiles. To clinch the matter, they create about 60 cubic feet of this stuff per month!! which, they send to my Records Center--eating what's left of my space pretty quickly. Everything was going smoothly until recently; they may be getting cold feet. Any input would be appreciated.
