Hey folks, as list owner can I make a request:Let's not get too focused on issues far afield from libraries and image databases as information resources!
This list was started to promote discussion among librarians and other information resource providers. Many of you on this list are actively involved in imaging and creating image databases that are important as "information," I think your continued involvement is quite valuable and appreciated. So PLEASE continue.
However, let's try to focus on what this list is intended to do and not get into discussions that are beyond it's intended focus. I'd suggest that discussions about equipment might be handled better by sending replies to the original requestor who can summarize for the list. Then if the summary promotes discussion or warrants clarification, let's take it from there. Topics such as images and invoicing for campus business offices should be discussed elsewhere. Sorry, but that seems well beyond IMAGELIB's scope to me.
My concern is that discussions such as these could drive out the very audience for which IMAGELIB was started.
I've been planning to submit some discussion topics in September such as: public access workstations to image databases; including image databases in library instruction; continuation of the vision discussion Paul Gherman started; dealing with copyright issues; using local collections for development purposes...
If you have any questions about this, feel free to send me e-mail.
Stuart
