Greetings ImagelibersWe are in the process of setting up a WWW server (Mosaic) for our Archives department and are planning to put several thousand images (black and white ranging from 1.5" x 1.5" to 8.5" x 11").
My question is this: Can anybody give me some advice on what dpi to use? We want to keep the file size as small as possible, but on the flip side, we need the resolution to look good if the user needs to expand it. Also, what file type is recommended for such a project? I know this also has an influence on the size of the file.
I'm sure that many libraries have already taken on such projects and I hope to learn from mistakes that other people have made rather than making them myself. So, to those institutions, what would you do differently if you had it to do over again?
Please e-mail me directly and thanks in advance!
