I've created a couple of web documents that address image quality issues. I think they are of general interest. These were created for the University of Michigan, Office of Instructional Technology, and are meant to be easy to follow. I hope you find them useful.1) DMS Guide to Web Color: Palettes & Gamma
http://www.oit.itd.umich.edu/projects/DMS/answers/colorguide/
Many, if not most, Web users have computers that can display only 256 colors at once. Some PCs are limited further to 16 colors. Yet, it is very easy to create digital images that contain as many as 16.7 million colors. How good an image looks on the Web depends entirely on the capabilities of each user's hardware and software. These pages describe the problem using easy to understand terms and provide instructions for preparing images for the Web using Photoshop.
2) Achieving Good Color Images In PowerPoint
http://www.oit.itd.umich.edu/projects/DMS/answers/ppcolor/index.html
Microsoft PowerPoint does not do a very good job of managing color on 8-bit (256 colors/grays) display systems. The problem is most evident when a color or grayscale bitmapped image is included on a slide. The quality of the inserted image often drops considerably because PowerPoint hastily maps the image to available colors. As a result, color banding occurs, and at times, distracting colors appear. The problem is exaggerated with each additional image that is added to a slide. This document offers image preparation methods that address the problem. Specific instructions for using Photoshop and DeBabelizer to prepare images are provided.
