Eileen,

We have talked about using call numbers as part of the naming scheme for our archival materials, although we haven't implemented anything yet. Our plan was to use parts of the call numbers as directory and subdirectory names, so documents could be grouped topically, and then use only the most specific part of the number in the filenames. We have both Dewey and LC call numbers, which complicates things. But most of us understand call numbers, so this would be a useful, long-term approach. I'd be interested to hear how you use such a scheme, if you implement it.
