    Position Description:

    Lohan Associates, an architectural & interior design firm in downtown Chicago, is seeking a part-time Archivist for the management of its = visual resources collections. Duties include: overseeing the photo and slide library, managing an image database, creating digital representations of photographic materials, updating the collection and organization systems = as needed, and assisting the Marketing Department as needed. An ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, will be willing to work with a diverse group of individuals, will work well independently, = and has experience with imaging and image databases. Hourly salary is commensurate with experience.     General Responsibilities:

    The overall goal of this position is to continue to organize the Lohan Associate Marketing Archive utilizing the established system and adapting to new image formats as they are introduced to the collections. The system is designed to provide a clear path to any information the Lohan Associate Marketing Department requires. The collections consist of approximately 10,000 35mm slides and = approximately 10,000 color and black and white slides, a small VHS video collection, = and approximately 6,000 digital files. Materials range from approximately = 1929
    (from the office of Mies van der Rohe) through the present.

    Maintain Marketing Archives Images

    Organize and catalog marketing resources including project photographs, slides, past proposals/presentations and related data.

    Manage marketing resources using the image database (Image AXS
     Pro) as an access tool. This includes researching project data, = creating slides in PowerPoint, organizing materials, entering data, making labels from = an Access database, labeling, and filing.

    Maintain Marketing Archives Policies

    Communicate Marketing Archive policies and procedures to
     collection users and provides reference assistance.

    Ensure materials are circulated properly. Enforce circulation policies.

    Periodically update policies and procedures to suit the growing needs of the Marketing Department.

    Determine new policies for the handling of the Mies van der Rohe collection.

    Recommend equipment for viewing, storing, labeling, archiving and monitoring visual resource materials.

    Takes inventory periodically to see that everything needed is available.

    Keep Current

    Keep informed of new trends in the Visual Resource field by reading journals and current research. Membership to VRA and participation in standard listserve discussions, such as the VRA or ARLIS-NA is = recommended.

    -- Considerable skill in supervisory principles, practices and techniques, research methods, written and oral communication.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Completion of some coursework in Library Science or Archives courses. Some coursework in Art History, Architectural History or Architecture is recommended.
