Regarding the discussion of scanning glass-plate negatives (or positives), I wonder whether there is or have been any efforts to scan and preserve the ever-dwindling collections of art history lantern slides.

I know people have spoken of the urgency to salvage these rare images, and have heard that attempts have been made to begin a program to this end, but know of nothing that is ongoing.

Individuals have written to me to ask what they should do with the bulky lantern-slide collections that they are being forced to clear out to increase storage space.

Sadly, I've heard stories of lantern slides used to make hanging room-dividers and even party gowns -- see-through, I imagine.
