<<Dark Horse Imaging is a small company that has designed and tested a
prototype scanner which will digitize opaque cards and microprints, then
store the images to CD-ROM. Samples of the kind of material that appeared
in this format are the Great Britain command papers and the Readex
Microprint Early American Newspaper collection (since redone on microfilm).
Many of the reader-printers developed for this kind of material are no
longer being serviced to replace broken parts and it is difficult for
researchers to obtain copies of this material. As many of these valuable
documents are on micro card only, this would be an opportunity to make the
collections available again to the research community.
This company is in the process of developing a high-speed production model
and would like to know how much interest there would be from libraries and
institutions. The National Library of Canada's Reprography Section has seen
what they can produce and it is of similar quality and clarity as that
produced by book scanners. You may contact the company directly with your
questions and comments. The contact is
Gary Courte and the email address is : mailto:darkhorseimaging@c4.com >>
