    Special Collections at Haverford College seeks an intern to participate in a pilot digitization project. Responsibilities will cover many different aspects of digital library development including scanning, transcription, indexing, authority control, subject access, interface design, database management, editing, and genealogical and biographical research. Interns working in Special Collections at Haverford College must be available to work between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (no evening or weekend hours).

    The finding aid for the collection being digitized can be accessed at http://www.haverford.edu/library/special/aids/copeevans/

    General Tasks include:
    *Transcribing letters written between 1732 and 1911
    *Scanning letters using Adobe Photoshop and Silverfast
    *Cataloging and editing
    *Biographical and historical research related to the collection

    Additional tasks may include:
    *Working with Content DM and Filemaker Pro database software
    *Interface design and website maintenance using Dreamweaver and HTML code
    *Assisting with data migration and Dublin Core crosswalks
    *Indexing and cataloging
    *Development of controlled vocabularies using LC Authority files and AACR2 rules

    Qualifications:
    *Promptness, accuracy, dependability, ability to work with other people
    *Familiarity with basic database functions
    *Interest in history, archives, or Special Collections librarianship
    *Experience or interest in digital imaging, electronic resources, or cataloging

    Internship available for Fall 2002 or Spring 2003. Hours and stipend to be determined.
