My 2 bob worth:
I am told by professionals in photography that anything in paper or photo
form should be nicely photographed by by professional photographers first.
This would finish up in archival materials - negatives, slides, and photos.
You can, then, scan the photographs into a magnetic/optical medium. The
result would be much better than simply scanning the same materials, and
much less destructive, too.
There has been a lot of talk on this list about the "permanence" of CD's and
how it has been proven (or viceversa) so far.
