There an X-windows viewer called XV, latest version is 3.0, that
might be good for you. You can ftp "ftp.x.org" for a look or contact
mailto:"mailto:bradley@cis.upenn.edu", the author, for more information. --I have
not used this myself, but am told it is very good; I believe it
should work with OSF/1.

I am interested in your project. It sounds similar to what we are starting. We are adding color and black and white digatized images to our OCR data files, all of which will be part of our on- line catalog. I would be interested in knowing more about the software from Innovative Interfaces --how you decided on it, a contact at Innovative.

The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center Library is embarking on a project to link images of black & white and color photographs and slides to bibliographic records in its online catalog using software developed by Innovative Interfaces, Inc.

Currently, our plans are to create a master TIFF image at 600 dpi, and then to link a TIFF image at a lower resolution, possibly 300 dpi, to the record in the online catalog for viewing. I would appreciate this group's reaction to this approach and advice on any pitfalls we should avoid. Should we compress the lower resolution image (if so, what compression scheme should we use?), scan at a lower resolution than 300 dpi for viewing, etc. We plan to store the images on an optical disk system and to eventually make them available over the Internet as part of our online catalog.

Also, can anyone recommend a program (preferably public domain) for viewing TIFF and GIF files under the OSF/1 architecture?

Thanks for your help.
