Two new entries have been added to the Clearinghouse of Image Databases: (http://www.library.arizona.edu/images/image_projects.html)1. University of Arizona Library & St. Mary's Hospital (Tucson); A Heritage of Loving Service: The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in Tucson. http://www.library.arizona.edu/images/caron/caronhom.html
This exhibit is part of the Images of the Southwest series. The Carondelet Sisters hold an important historical presence in Tucson because in 1880, they took in the first patients at St. Mary's Hospital, Tucson's first hospital, caring for the sick and injured of the Southern Pacific Railroad, County patients, and all who came. This Web exhibit offers a digital history and tribute to the Sisters' contributions in Tucson and the region. The exhibit includes 28 images from photos. There is also a digital version of an out-of-print book in the exhibit, and two more in the works.
- University of Arizona Library; La Cadena Que No Se Corta/The Unbroken Chain: The Tradtional Arts of Tucson's Mexican-American Community. http://www.library.arizona.edu/images/cadena/cadena.html
This exhibit, also within the scope of Images of the Southwest, highlights the visual art that is created by members of Tucson's Mexican-American community as a part of normal, everyday life. The Web exhibit is authored by James S. Griffith, Ph.D., of the University of Arizona Library's Southwest Folklore Center. Dr. Griffith and Cynthia Vidaurri, of the Smithsonian Institution, provided the slides from which the digital images have been created. It complements and becomes a permanent record of an exhibit shown at the University of Arizona Museum of Art from November 3, 1996 until January 13, 1997. The exhibit includes images from 71 color slides.
