Eileen,Didn't mean to remain silent on this issue, I have an opinion on just about everything, and this is one subject I have actually thought out a bit.
DVD holds a lot of promise, but so far the lack of machines make it the "back burner." It is the (seemingly) emerging choice for distribution, but until every PC and Mac is sold with a DVD, things will remain slow (IMHO).
Truth is, burning CD's takes so much time and attention, that I use CD's only for off-site file back-up and I am starting to doubt the usefulness of CD for that. It would take long hours to restore my image files from CD.
I personally think server technology is the way to go with mass storage and retreival, and it seems that SilverPlatter, and many academic library databases feel the same way.
With huge hard drives just about 200 bucks, who has the time and people to be sitting around burning data onto a piece of plastic?
