Position Announcement

Computer Support Specialist Academic Administration; Rank: Instructor; Fixed-term renewable appointment; 12 month, full time; Salary: $30,000-$34,000 annually (commensurate with experience) to begin March 27, 1995 or sooner

Responsibilities: Assisting the five departments and four programs in the School of Architecture and Allied Arts in the development and operation of computing facilities for instructional, research, and administrative purposes. This position reports to the Associate Dean of the School of Architecture and Allied Arts. Duties will include providing support for faculty and students with instructional needs, providing assistance in the establishment and operation of local area networks, giving recommendations and facilitating the acquisition of equipment and software, setting up and assisting faculty in the operation of computing laboratories, training faculty, staff and student groups in the use of system and network software, providing minor programming assistance when required, providing technical support for student network, diagnosing problems and coordinating the maintenance and repair of systems. Responsibilities include coordination and liaison with the University Computing Center and maintenance of the local electronic mail system and network connections to the campus network, UO Net. This position is also responsible for hiring and supervising student employees.

Qualifications: B.A. or B.S. degree. Computer Science background desirable. Experience and familiarity with both Macintosh (primary) and IBM compatible (secondary) systems is essential. Requires experience in use of a wide variety of software, experience with graphic workstations and microcomputer LANs, campus and wide-area networks, and Ethernet-based netware. Also requires familiarity with computing hardware and ability to make minor repairs, install boards, etc. Experience with file transfers between dissimilar systems and in establishing instructional computing laboratories is desirable. Strong time management and prioritization skills are essential.
