RE: Question of gif files and MacHTTP Consider using the following shareware programs: GifConverter, GraphicConverter, Giffer, JPEGViewGif files are used as "in-line" images with text in HTML documents, the type of document served by WWW programs like MacHTTP and viewed by Mosaic, Netscape or MacWeb. Mosaic and MacWeb require "helper programs" to open JPEG files, in the Mac environment JPEGView is usually used for this purpose (as it is for Gopher clients). Netscape will open JPEG files by itself as separate pages, however under some conditions it will also allow one to use JPEG files as in-line images.
You can convert many types of file format with Adobe PhotoShop or Debablizer, however these are expensive programs. Shareware programs like GraphicConverter ($30 though online serverice), GifConverter, Giffer, JPEGView can be helpful. To offer efficient .gif files it is a good idea to convert them to the interlaced format within GifConverter (a "save as" fuction). This will allow some web clients like Netscape to progressively load the image while text loads as well.
Good luck.
