Dave: You should contact Pierre Ageron (mailto:Pierre.Ageron@univ-lyon2.fr) and ask about the system they have developed. I think it will do everything you want except the last. It is designed for a networked environment, but you will find it quite remarkable. They planned to have it available on the net; I don't know if it is yet.
