There is a program called DeBabilizer for the Macintosh. It allows one to do batch processing for various image editing tasks such as automatically resizing (to do thumbnails or any other size), renaming, changing resolution or file format, etc. I've used it quite a bit and have been very happy with the results. It is available through most commercial mailorder companies for about $270. A "Lite" version is available for under $100.
