John -
There are several ways to database images - collection management systems
such as EmbARK or AXS PRo by DAS, image management systems such Cumulus
by Canto, and several standard databases my favorite being FileMakerPRo.
If you are looking for a program to tell you how to describe the image-
check out the collection management systems. They have been developed
with visual resource professionals. If you haven't digitized your images
and are just looking for descriptive terms, you should talk to the VRA (
Visual Resource Association) -

If you want more info you can contact me off list.
