Dear List Members

We are a Preservation and Access Program working in conjunction with JNUL the National Library of Israel to preserve rare monographs and periodicals from the 15-19th centuries. We have microfilmed more than half a million images on 16mm 35mm and jacket fiche.

Have any of used the Nanomach ScreenScan ? Does it have the resoloution, sensitivity etc. to produce quality black and white (8 bit) images for distribution on CD's ? Does it have quick and convenient software for cropping, contrast control, shapening etc. Is it a reliable system can it really be retofitted from reader to reader in a few minutes.

Can anyone recommend other film scanners at this price level or maybe you've heard of a used scanner for sale. We are not interested in a highly automated scanner but in a dependable quality scanner.

Can anyone recommend software for mass conversion of Tiff4 images to JPG, GIF or Tiff3 ?

Thank you for your help
