Donna and others, Our institution, Broward County Library (Ft. Lauderdale area), is about to = embark on a digitization project of a select part of our special collection=
of WPA materials from the 1930's, items from a sub-agency of the WPA calle= d (in several states) the Museum Extension Project. These were educational=
aids that were created back then and includes dioramas, puppets, dolls, la= ntern slides, color plates, and accompanying text. We are in the beginning=
phases of the project and are looking to evaluate a couple of image databa= ses. Actually, we are about to start a trial phase for ContentDM. So I'm = very interested in your experiences with ContentDM, both good and bad.

I'm wondering if anyone else has other products they could recommend, or ha= s any other comments about ContentDM. It sure sounded great from their web= site... We're looking for a product that is adaptable to the variety of med= ia we're dealing with, allows for easy user searching, provides a variety o= f display options on the web and allows for the conversion of data elements=
into metadata tags. ContentDM says they allow for easy conversion to Dubl= in Core, but we're planning on using EAD for our mark-up language. I'm awa= re there are crosswalks for conveting DC to EAD, but I'm concerned this mig= ht be adding some rather burdensome extra steps.

Are there products that easily convert data elements into EAD tags--or does=
anyone know whether ContentDM allows for that easily? Are there comparabl= e products to ContentDM that might suit our needs better? I'm still very n= ew to this field so forgive me if I'm asking obvious questions... Thanks ve= ry much!

Speaking of image databases, is anyone on this list using CONTENTdm? I would love to find a user group for this product, which we're finding to be powerful but extremely quirky. The documentation and web site are very clear and helpful when describing how everything is *supposed* to work, but when our implementation falls short of that (and we're on our third reinstall of the server in six months!), the silence is deafening.

Does anyone have any experiences to share?
