Dear Readers of this message:I am sorry if I have cross posted this message to the wrong groups. I have tried to limit the posting to those groups which I feel may have the best audience to answer. If you feel the need to flame me, or inform me that I posted inappropriately, then please do so. I will make every effort to not post to the group in the future. Also, if you feel another group might be able to answer my question, please forward that groups name.
Introduction:
I have a problem I need to solve immediately. I need to locate a piece of commercially available software that can convert a Postscript(r) level II document to a TIFF - CCITT group 4 encoded file(s). I am aware of Ghostscript, but it has certain font limitations, and I do not know that it currently supports group 4 compression for output. Also, Ghostscript has certain limitations on being used in a comercial environment. Below is a list of specifications and information required. Please respond via email, since the large cross-posting will make it difficult to check responses to the newsgroups only.
If the software is not available, but a service organization can perform the conversion, what is the media required for file transfer? What is the cost per page, per 10,000 pages, and per 100,000 pages? What is the time (calendar time) for conversion of 100,000 pages. What is your overall capacity? (pages per month) How many years have you been performing this conversion and number of pages converted so far?
Specifications:
Input: Postscript(r) Level-II Document file.
Output: TIFF - CCITT - Group 4, 2D encoded frame, 300dpi. Either single or multiple files coresponding to each page in the Postscript file. Continuous tone images, color or grayscale are to be half toned at 300dpi. Embedded font descriptions are to handled and size appropriatly.
Information required:
Availability: Product name or package? Who makes this software? How can I purchase the software? What are the cost of licenses? What is the time frame of availability? How long has this product been available?
Platforms: What platforms is this software available on? CPU type? Operating Systems? Multiprocessor capable? (i.e. can it make use of multiple cpu's)
Performance: What is the typical conversion rate of single page of mixed text and graphics for a given platform?
Limitations: What are the known limitations of the software? What are the usage restrictions. (i.e. can it be exported, can it be distributed by a 3rd party vendor etc.)
Experience: If anyone has direct experience using such a package, what comments, or improvements would you make, or what bugs have you found?
