The January 1995 Scientific American article is excellent and offers
solutions towards "Ensuring the Longevity of Digital Documents" (the title
of the piece, as opposed to the kicker on the cover). I highly recommend
this piece for all digital librarians, image & otherwise. Author is Jeff
Rothenberg and he's really covered some of the preservation issues we need
to consider.
