If your first preference is the Sun platform you might not have a whole lot of choice compared to Macintosh. But there are a options avalable: Fujitsu has a package for Sun workstations where they provide OCR and scanning software packages. The Sun package comes with the Fujitsu Scan Partner Plus software and Xerox Imaging System's ScanWorX OCR software. Scanner's from Fujitsu [e.g. SP10] support the Sun platform and have a max size of 8.5 X 14 and are flat bed w/ document feeder standard which suits your requirements. Also Pixel Craft 7650 ProImager, Ricoh IS50/IS510/IS60 models and Fujitsu M3096G do support the Sun platform but am not sure what scanning and OCR software comes bundled with them. On the Macintosh there should be tons of TWAIN compliant options for your requirements.
