Dear ALA Midwinter Attendee:
Electronic imaging is emerging as one of the foundations of the Virtual
Library. If you would like to learn more about its potential, come to a special session at ALA Midwinter to learn how this technology -- incorporating the Z39.50-based retrieval power of OCLC SiteSearch and the flexible access of the World Wide Web-- can help you put new
electronic collections on your users' desktops.
During Midwinter, there will be two sessions previewing the new Imaging Support Package. Besides an overview of imaging technology, each session will provide a presentation by staff from the Washington Research Library Consortium. WRLC and its member libraries -- in particular George Mason University, George Washington
Unversity, and American University -- have been co-developers of this
new addition to the SiteSearch product family. The WRLC presentation will focus on the online archive being developed at George Mason and the electronic reserve projects at George Washington and American. WRLC staff will also discuss how they plan to use WebZ to integrate these electronic collections with their existing OPAC and other electronic resources.
Please plan to attend one of the the following sessions:
- Sunday, January 21, 8-10 am, Hyatt, Pecan Room
- Monday, January 22, 8-10 am, Marriott Riverwalk, Alamo Salon B
Space is limited so we urge you to RSVP quickly. Send your reply to Susanne Krouse via email (mailto:susanne_krouse@oclc.org) or via (614-764-6079). Please indicate which session you plan to attend. If you can't attend, please visit the OCLC booth (461) for a demonstration, or contact your OCLC representative.
