Greetings Jacob,
We have done this by using a database-to-World Wide Web approach. The images reside on a conventional file server with just http:// pointers in the database. This could be done as a public Internet or a restricted Intranet. In this way the client computer can be any variety that can use a forms-based web browser. Nearly any database application can be used FM Pro, 4D etc.
Cheers,
Ed
