Hello Imagelib'ers,

Our library is spec'ing out the square footage for a digitization center. (Digitization center is my way of saying a room where we'd like to put the larger pieces of scanning equipment we are talking.) I'd appreciate some advice on a couple things.

At the recent ALA conference, I collected info on Minolta's PS3000 Pubilcation Scanner and MS 3000 Microfilm Scanner. I looked at Canon's MS 400 Microform Scanner as well but they didn't have any literature showing the dimensions and are mailing it.

The PS3000 is a "face-up scanner" that is 25.6" [650mm] (W) X 23.5 [597mm] (D) X 29.7" [754mm] (H). It can connect to a network printer and needs a PC and monitor.

The MS300 Microfilm Scanner requires staff to sit in front of it and needs a PC and monitor (the rep suggested a 17" monitor). The operator also uses the screen on the film machine during the process. It's dimensions are 22.5" [571mm] (W) X 30" [762mm] (D) X 33.5" [851mm] (H)

For those of you supporting this equipment, how much workspace do you recommend. We're not at all locked into this equipment, it's just that Minolta and Canon were the only two vendors at the trade show. If you have sim equipment from diff vendor, please feel free to comment on the workspace requirements. It will help a great deal.

Another scanning station I'm interested is one that does maps and posters. I saw one at an ALA annual a year or two ago, but not at this trade show. If you have such a scanner, would you please send me some information on the approx dimensions and workspace you recommend. URLs alerting me to companies with info on the web is welcome too.

Thanks, Stuart
