Thanks to everyone who wrote to me publicly and privately on the problem of
unidentified image formats. Each response was helpful.

For my purposes the freeware imaging program iview285.exe sent to me by an
imagelib reader worked perfectly.

The most interesting suggestion, also sent privately, was the suggestion
that I buy a Mac.
