PICTURING PERFORMANCE: THE ICONOGRAPHY OF THE PERFORMING ARTS IN CONCEPT
AND PRACTICE (Univ. of Rochester Press, 1999).
This new handbook should make the folks at the Fine Arts Museum of San
Francisco feel pretty good about their wonderful Art Imagebase and its
"zoom" technology. It also gives a fresh perspective on the old and new
meanings of "iconography." And it provides, selectively, the names,
addresses, URLs, phone and fax (and e-mail when available) of many
wonderful collections where picture research can be done today in Europe
and North America.
I have convinced the publisher to put up a web page where interested
"listserv" colleagues, whether individual or institutional, can avail
