Dear List Members:
We are negotiating to acquire the rights to post on the web a large collection of rare
books scanned in .pdf files. We have to pay the copyright owner a per page charge for
every page copied from his collection. Does anyone have experience with Adobe .pdf
writer or know of a site where we could get solutions or ideas concerning the following:
1. The .pdf files are usually entire books. How can we allow the reader the possibility
to select and download only the pages he needs without rewriting the books into
chapter or page files? Is there some kind of plug-in that can put divider marks into the
main file ?
2. The copyright owner wants to be paid according to the number of pages each reader
copies. However most readers will browse many pages before they choose to print a
portion of them. Is there any way to allow browsing without printing (thumbnails won't
help since the text won't be readable...)
3. Ascii files are available from another source for a portion of these image files.
What is the best technique for matching text files to the image files in the .pdf
environment ?
Thank You
Yaakov Rosenes
