Fellow scholars --
the following query was posted to the Renaissance list FICINO
mailto:<mailto:ficino@utoronto.bitnet> by ALan Rudrum. I'd be happy to forward any
answers to that list. And I'd also like to add my own query: has anyone
tried using hand-held scanners to "read in" black and white / greyscale
images (maps, woodcuts, etc.) as well as printed words, early modern or
modern? I too am contemplating a scanner purchase and would like to hear
your experiences.
thanks

I wonder if any member of the Ficino list has had success in scanning early printed material? A colleague who tried on nineteenth century material a couple of years ago said there were so many errors as to make it not worth while; but I guess technology marches on. I am thinking of printed materials from early to late seventeenth century. Please cross-post, and respond to me personally.
