If you can find a copy of it, check out the July 1994 issue of _Advanced
Imaging_. There are two articles I found of interest.

Francis Hamit, "Imaging's Reality Invades Virtual Reality for New Apps," p. 18-20. It looks at imaging in museums, the Virtual Museum. Bill Gates (Microsoft) and his image acquisitions is lightly examined. The Continuum project is alluded to but not named.

Andrew W. Davis "How Image Processing Pros Put them Together and Why," p. 54, 56, 58-9. Is interesting because it talks about the link between Mac and UNIX. You get the ease of a Mac, but the power and volume of the UNIX language and higher capacity hardware. This is probably the direction all image databases are moving towards in terms of shear volume and the necessary power needed to get decent retrieval.

On p. 13, there is also a list of recent books on Imaging.

I first found _Advanced Imaging_ at the U of Michigan SLIS Library. It is a publication where the vendors frequently write articles on their products. In the case of these two articles, this is not true. It is published out of Melville, NY by PTN Publishing Co.
