Hello all (sorry to hog the bandwith, but...),

We (California Historical Society) recently completed an initial stage of a grant funded image digitization and cataloging project. The development of this listserv and the interest throughout the profession demonstrates that this paradigm of enhanced collection access is very successful and is of huge benefit to users and institutions alike.

Here is my shameless question: There are talented image catalogers who have slogged through the mire, helping to pioneer full MARC cataloging of every type of visual collection material, from collection level to item level. They are well qualified catalogers and I thought that they would be fought over by other institutions instituting digital imaging projects when our project cycled. To date, there have been few job postings which involve the cataloging of digitization efforts.

-Is anybody out there undertaking digital imaging projects? -Are institutions just doing small pilot projects? -Has the flourishing of Web access put a harpoon in more serious imaging efforts? -Is the austerity of NEWTonian budget cutting cancelling any progress in this arena?

If anyone is undertaking imaging projects and there is a cataloging component attached, would you please contact me for imformation about very talented and professional catalogers. One will relocate and one needs to remain in the bay area. I am starting to feel like a false prophet having suggested that this was an up and coming specialty.

Thank you for tolerating my bandwidth.
