that's great. I've heard him a couple times and read some things he's written. It will be well worth attending. >

I'm sure we all agree there is tremendous need to get control over the many valuable information resources on the Interent. I'm interested in a couple products from vendors in the U.S. One is OCLC's SiteSearch and the other is Ameritech's NetPublisher. You can read up on both products via each company's web site.

In Georgia, for instance, the state universities are using SiteSearch to create records to resources and then using a Z39.50 GUI interface from OCLC called WebZ to make a common interface to them. That's what I seem to remember from something i read about it. I've worked with a demo version of NetPublisher and like the idea that as you create an electronic record to an image, you can create a MARC record, assign descriptors/subject headings -- either LC or descriptors used by a particular subject discipline -- and create a Web ready version as well. Maybe some IMAGELIB subscribers using these types of products can comment.

I'm off to the American Library Association annual conf tonight and expect to take a closer look at these and similar products. I heard, and have no idea if it's correct yet, that SilverPlatter is developing or has released a similar product. Anyone know?

Happy Fourth of July!
