I've been working with a Microtek ScanMaker IISP with moderately good results, particularily with larger format negatives (>35mm). It took some calibrating, which took quite a bit of time, but it was worth it. Their new ScanWizard software was a welcome improvement as well.

We are getting ready to purchase the Minolta QuickScan (name?) for quite a bit of 35mm slide work we have coming up (for a historical image database where high quality 35mm Kodachromes were made of the originals). It is also supposed to be much better for color negatives *IF* you are scanning 35mm only.
