Subject to a contrary assertion, to me the Olympus ES-10 looks as if it
does not actually handle UNCUT 35mm stock. It uses a six-image frame to
flatten and register the 35mm roll film. On the basis of images on the
Olympus web-site
(http://www.olympusamerica.com/product.asp?c=55&p=19&s=12&product=124)
this frame seems to require strips no longer than six images -- the holder
(carriage) does not look as if it can grab any six contiguous frames in a
roll of thirty-six.
The Sony UYS77 (and the newer UYS90) on the other hand is specifically made
for roll film -- as already cited on this list. The cost of the UYS90 at B
and H photo is only $6,000. Or to put it another way, the cost of 1500
PhotoCD scans from a high-end processing company or 12,000 from a low end
company. (Not counting your time and an allowance for lack of expertise,
cost of media and additional equipment.)
