Hi,
Excuse cross posting.
1. Just double checking as to whether anyone out there has a
recommendation for a scanner for barcodes for slides for a Mac G4.
We have just barcoded our collection of 70,000 slides. Next step is
to scan it into Filemaker and run a circ system from it.
2. Thumbnails versus high res.... this sounds a little bit crazy,
but...... due to copyright restrictions, I'm swinging around to the
notion of scanning just thumbnails and at least having a visual
browse selection for our slides. I did a survey of many suppliers
some years back and many didn't mind thumnbnails. Thumbnails also are
accepted as beyond copyright in an educational setting. In an era
where book/library votes hinge on shelf usage stats, they would have
to be for it; as the thumbnails would make all the slides more
accessible.
Has anyone done this, can you scale costs down for a bulk deal? I
guess I'm asking Aussi compatriots mostly, but it would be
interesting to note what UK and USA is up to too.
Thanks for feedback
Jennifer
