This discussion and a timely question directed to me personally has resulted in
an article on my site - Menu of image management options which others who have
been tracking this dicussion might find informative.

I must add here, however having been examining ACDSee, that it does do some
minor image manipulation - rotating, brightness, contrast, but not in a
sophisticated manner. Also it allows you to assign, keywords or notes.
