MOST EXTENSIVE COLLECTION OF FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT DRAWINGS AND DOCUMENTATION RELEASED AS MAJOR NEW ELECTRONIC PUBLICATION ON CD-ROM

NEW YORK, N.Y., June 1, 1995 -- Luna Imaging, Inc., in collaboration with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, formally launched its first in a series of major electronic publications, *Frank Lloyd Wright: Presentation and Conceptual Drawings,* at a recent event held at the Museum of Modern Art. Distributed by Oxford University Press, this extraordinary new reference work contains nearly 5,000 high resolution digital images of drawings from the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation Archives at Taliesin West. The publication sets a new standard for making visual collections available to academic and professional audiences, and was, last week, named the first place winner of the American Museum Association Design award.

"The drawings of Frank Lloyd Wright constitute one of the rarest and finest collections of architectural drawings in the world. By imaging them onto CD-ROM, Luna Imaging makes this material available on a vast scale never before imagined," stated Bruce Brooks Pfeiffer, Director of the Frank Lloyd Wright Archives.

Encompassing more than 860 projects, the 2,848 presentation drawings and 2,138 conceptual sketches document the breadth of Wright's creative genius. Along with designs for Wright's architectural works, the discs also include designs for carpets, amusement parks, furniture, and magazine covers.

*Frank Lloyd Wright: Presentation and Conceptual Drawings* combines full-color digital reproductions of the highest fidelity to the original works with extensive documentation on each drawing and project. The unique pairing of high-resolution images with extensive catalog information has never before been attempted in electronic media. The digital reproductions rival or surpass the quality of full-color plates found in the finest art publications, while the power of the database technology allows ready command over the publication's enormous scope.

Access to this comprehensive body of images and text is made easy with Insight software, a rich visual environment that provides unprecedented flexibility to view and study visual collections. Users can search, sort, and examine drawings by any criteria including location, project type, date, medium, and name of the client who commissioned the project. Each catalog record contains updated bibliographic citations and exhibition histories, along with notes and cross references. An extensive set of viewing functions allows users to arrange, resize, pan, and examine details of each drawing.

Dr. Michael Ester, president of Luna Imaging, commented on the publishing effort: "Our overarching goal is to ensure the preservation in electronic form of the visual record of our historical and artistic heritage. The publications we develop meet the demands of high-quality reproduction and support the way scholars use visual materials in their work."

The publication project used Kodak Photo-CD scanning and color management technology to create the digital images. Kodak worked closely with Luna Imaging to address the technical challenges presented by this cutting edge application. Dick Pignataro, vice-president and general manager, Professional and Printing Imaging at Eastman Kodak, stated, "I know of no single better example of the level of quality that has been achieved with our technologies and expertise."
