Dear Colleagues:

I am considering purchasing either of two UMAX scanners: the Powerlook II or Mirage D-16L. The specs of both look good to me, and the latter seems particularly attractive since it has a large scanning bed (useful for large format materials--typical of the musical scores which are in our library's collections). We would be running the scanner off of a Windows NT workstation (166 mhz Intel machine).

I'd appreciate hearing from users who have used either scanner--good and bad aspects, etc. We will be preparing images for WWW pages on the one hand, for PhotoCDs on the other; we will be scanning both color and b/w originals.

Many thanks in advance for your help!

John Howard
