Here at the UC Berkeley Library we are just completing a finding
aid-based SGML project to provide access to parts of the Bancroft
Library's pictorial collections of Californiana, the California Heritage
project (2 years, NEH-funded, 28,000 images when complete). Take a look
at:   "http://sunsite.Berkeley.EDU/CalHeritage/"

This project does not aspire to provide interactive services like ordering copies, but it provides facilities to search the finding aids, and eventually I understand it will be integrated with the Library's OPAC.
