I' ve got to repeat the question - why are you all reinventing the wheel?
 With several image centric databases which can communicate with the
powerhouses either through web interfaces or protocol, why try to
recreate it in something like oracle?  This is a serious question.  What
are you gaining when Canto's Cummullus or DAS's AXSPRO can easily read
your image files tags and will continue to maintain that ability with
changing image file formats.  They aren't very expensive, relative to
Oracle and the other big guys.  I would even see them as a utility.  Got
to admit I use Kodak's defunct Shoebox as a utility to load image and
file information into FMP databases which are smaller then being
discussed here and the image is auxillary.
