Openings in Visual Information Management Systems Projects Image and Advanced TV Lab ADVENT Project Columbia University

Position: Staff Associate

We are looking for an outstanding candidate to work on research and development of visual information management systems. The work will mainly involve development and management of image/video databases with advanced content-based search and retrieval functions.

We have developed several advanced research prototypes in VISM, including a large-scale Web-based image search/cataloging engine, a Web-based MPEG video editing system, and several content-based visual query systems using multimedia features. The Staff Associate will be responsible for integrating the new research prototypes into the database and maintaining the increasing amount of visual content stored in the database. He/she will have the opportunity to explore research in the area of multimedia indexing, advanced user interface, and Internet search engines.

Qualifications: M.S. in Computer Science or related area Extensive experience in database development and programming (C, C++, Java, Java Media Player, plugins) Experience in using commercial databases (e.g. Informix, Oracle, DB2) Knowledge about video compression and networking
